The Watch

The Watch is a two-bedroom cottage in Porthcurno, west Cornwall, sleeping four adults with two bathrooms and an enclosed garden. It occupies the top floor of the Old Hotel in The Valley - the lane that runs down from the road to Porthcurno's beach and the Minack Theatre.

The cottage has two bedrooms and two bathrooms across the upper floor. There is a washing machine, dishwasher, and Wi-Fi. The enclosed garden suits the one or two dogs permitted. Parking is included. Changeover is Saturday.

Porthcurno beach is 400m down the valley - a white-sand cove sheltered by granite headlands. The Minack Theatre, an open-air amphitheatre carved into the cliff above the beach in the 1930s, is a short walk up from the sand. Porthchapel Beach is a quieter cove 0.5 miles east along the coast path. Pedn Vounder, a more secluded beach, is about 0.8 miles east. The South West Coast Path west from here runs to Land's End; eastward, it tracks through wild clifftop scenery towards Lamorna Cove. The valley also contains the Telegraph Museum, which marks the point where submarine cables first connected Britain to the world in the 1870s.

Best for: dog-owning couples or families who want immediate access to one of Cornwall's best stretches of coast, with the Minack Theatre on the doorstep. Less suitable for those needing easy access to towns - the nearest shops and services are in Penzance, about 10 miles east.
