Meadowside

Meadowside is a five-bedroom house for nine in Rock, on the east bank of the Camel Estuary opposite Padstow. A super-king, a king and a single are joined by two twin zip-and-link rooms that convert to super-kings on request, and four bathrooms mean the five bedrooms rarely compete for a shower.

Open-plan interiors form the main living space, with sliding access to a sun deck for meals outside. A wood burner and a separate open fire cover mild and cold evenings, and the garden has room for a barbecue. WiFi, parking, a dishwasher and a washing machine are included, and up to two dogs can stay. There is no hot tub or pool.

Daymer Bay is 1.2 miles away, a sheltered sandy beach backed by dunes where the church of St Enodoc, John Betjeman's burial place, sits among the dunes. Greenaway Beach is 1.6 miles and Polzeath Beach, known for its surf break, is 2.1 miles. Rock's own beach faces west across the estuary with calm, shallow water for families and sailing lessons.

The water taxi to Padstow runs roughly every 20 minutes for Rick Stein's restaurants and the harbour. Meadowside holds a 4.7 out of 5 rating from seven reviews, with host Charlie managing the property; comfort and location each score 5.
