Two-bedroom refurbished apartment in Mousehole (pronounced "Mowzle") sleeping four, set in a traditional granite building 200 metres from the harbour beach. Sea views look out over the village rooftops to Mount's Bay.

The apartment keeps original cottage features alongside a modern open-plan kitchen-diner and a walk-in double shower. Two bedrooms share a single bathroom, so it suits one family or two close couples rather than four adults sharing on equal terms. Wifi and a washing machine are provided; no parking comes with the property.

Mousehole's harbour wall, the Ship Inn, the Rock Pool cafe and a couple of galleries sit a short walk downhill. December's harbour lights and Tom Bawcock's Eve (23 December, stargazy pie at the Ship) draw winter visitors county-wide. The South West Coast Path leaves the village south to Lamorna Cove (1.9 miles, sheltered cove with beach cafe) and north 1.5 miles to Newlyn, Cornwall's largest working fishing port.

Penzance, 3 miles north, has a mainline rail terminus and the year-round Scilly ferry. The Minack Theatre and Land's End sit 8 to 10 miles further west.

Best for a small family or two couples after a refurbished base steps from the water. Less good for car arrivals - parking in Mousehole is limited to the hilltop public car park, a 5-minute walk away.
