Cottage inside the private grounds of the Glendorgal Hotel, on the edge of Newquay. Three bedrooms and two bathrooms - a ground-floor double with en-suite, a further ground-floor double, and a single - with the living area upstairs on the first floor instead of down.

The upside-down layout puts an open-plan lounge and kitchen on the first floor, opening onto a balcony that catches sun for most of the day. WiFi, private parking and a washing machine are included, and dogs are welcome with a welcome pack provided for pets. The 17-acre hotel grounds give several spots overlooking Porth Beach and Lusty Glaze Cove, though the cottage itself does not have a direct sea view.

Porth Beach and Lusty Glaze are both about a 5-minute walk from the grounds, and Newquay town centre is within walking distance beyond that. The area has an aquarium, a zoo, several golf courses and a stretch of the South West Coast Path, with surf breaks along most of Newquay's beaches.

Best for surfers and dog owners wanting a quiet base close to the beach without being in the middle of town. Less good for anyone who wants a sea view from the property itself, since that's reserved for the wider hotel grounds.
