Burlorne

Burlorne is a four-bedroom cottage for eight in St Minver, the inland village three miles north of Wadebridge that gives you the Camel Estuary coast without Rock or Padstow prices. The headline is a heated outdoor pool, open June to the end of September. Two miles to Rock, three to the surf at Polzeath.

The layout works for two families sharing. Ground floor has the kitchen, dining room, conservatory, utility, cloakroom, and a sitting room whose french doors open onto the patio and pool. Upstairs are four bedrooms (one with balcony, one en-suite) and a family bathroom. Cot, highchair, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, and a charcoal BBQ are included.

The Camel Estuary villages are five minutes by car. Rock has the sailing scene and the foot ferry across to Padstow for the Stein restaurants. Daymer Bay is a sheltered family beach 2.6km away; Polzeath takes the surf. St Enodoc Church sits in the dunes nearby - John Betjeman is buried there - and the championship golf course wraps around it. The Camel Trail at Wadebridge runs 18 flat miles to Padstow and Bodmin.

Best for a multi-generational summer week with kids who'll live in the pool. Less good for autumn or winter stays - the pool is seasonal, and there's no wood burner or sea view.
