Gulland

Gulland is a first-floor two-bedroom flat on Overcliff in Port Isaac, sleeping three with one bathroom. The Overcliff road sits above the harbour - the elevated position means the upper windows look out over the rooftops towards the sea, and the village's narrow lanes and stone-fronted houses are a few minutes' walk downhill to the Platt.

The flat has a garden with a BBQ, washing machine, parking, and WiFi. No dishwasher. Not dog-friendly. Three people in two bedrooms makes this a workable base for a couple needing a second room or a small group of three friends. Changeover is Thursday, which gives flexibility around mid-week travel.

Port Gaverne Beach is 600 metres along the coast path - a sheltered cove with clear water over sand and pebble, lifeguarded in summer and quiet outside it. Port Isaac harbour has Nathan Outlaw's Fish Kitchen on Middle Street (book at least a month ahead in high season) and several harbour-front cafes where a crab sandwich and a coffee is the standard lunch. The village serves as the filming location for Doc Martin, which brings additional visitors during summer. Polzeath is 6.5km away for surfing.

Best for a small group wanting a village-centre base with a beach walkable in under 10 minutes and good dining within reach. Less good for anyone needing a dishwasher, travelling with dogs, or wanting more than three beds.
