Midships is a first-floor apartment on Market Square in Mevagissey, sleeping two in one double bedroom with two bathrooms. The location puts guests at the centre of one of Cornwall's most intact working fishing villages - the double harbour, narrow back lanes, and an aquarium dedicated to Cornish marine life are all on the doorstep.

Inside, the apartment has wifi, a dishwasher, and a washing machine. Two bathrooms for two guests is an unusual luxury. Off-street parking is included, which matters in a village where summer traffic backs up the hill. Saturday changeover.

Pentewan Beach is 1.4 miles south along the coast - a sheltered strip of sand with a small lake behind it popular with paddleboarders. Gorran Haven is 2.1 miles further. The Lost Gardens of Heligan are roughly 3 miles inland, and Charlestown - the Georgian harbour used in Poldark filming - is 5 miles north along the coast path.

The inner harbour still lands crab and lobster, and several fish restaurants open year-round within a few minutes' walk.

Best for couples or solo travellers who want to walk to dinner and still have a quiet base. Less good for those needing outdoor space - there is no garden or balcony at this cottage.
