Port Gaverne Beach is 0.3km away - a sheltered inlet used for launching kayaks and paddleboards, with calmer water than the open Atlantic beaches. The Port Gaverne Beach car park is close, but spaces fill by mid-morning in summer. Port Isaac itself is a working fishing harbour, regularly recognisable as Portwenn from the long-running ITV series Doc Martin, which filmed on location here for over a decade. The harbour, fish cellars, and warren of narrow streets between them are a 5-minute walk.

Polzeath, a wide sandy surf beach popular with families, is 6.8km along the B3314. Tregardock Beach - a remote and challenging access point on the coastal path - is 5.3km north. Rock and Padstow are both within 20 minutes by car.

Suits couples or families with a dog who want a proper village base in an area that genuinely draws visitors rather than simply passing through. Less good for guests who need disabled access - the cottage has two floors and Port Isaac's streets are steep and uneven.
