St Erme is a small village on the A39 corridor between Truro and the north coast. Summercourt is the nearest village with a pub and a local shop. Truro city centre - Cornwall's administrative capital, with its cathedral, retail centre, and mainline railway station - is around 8km south. The A30 trunk road is accessible within 5 minutes, which makes this a reasonable base for exploring both coasts.

Perranporth Beach, a 2-mile Atlantic-facing strand popular with surfers and kite flyers, is 10.8km northwest. Perranporth Beach has lifeguard cover in season and a surf school operating on the beach. Great Western Beach and Tolcarne Beach at Newquay are around 12km, and Newquay town is roughly 15 minutes by car.

Suits a couple who want a central Cornwall location for day trips in multiple directions, without paying coastal prices. Less good for guests who want to walk to the beach or be within easy reach of restaurants and evening entertainment without driving.
