Great Western Beach and Tolcarne Beach at Newquay are around 7.5 miles, and Truro is under 6.2 miles south for shopping, restaurants, and the mainline rail connection. Perranporth Beach tends to get busy in July and August, and the hot tub at Moonshine works well for evenings after a day at the beach.

St Erme village is a quiet settlement with no pub or shop within easy walking distance. Summercourt, a mile east on the A30 corridor, has a local pub. The A30 access makes day trips to the far west - Penzance, St Ives, the Lizard - manageable in under an hour.
