At low tide the sand runs for several hundred metres; the bay is popular with families as well as experienced surfers.

Millook Beach is 2.8km south - a remote shingle cove accessed by a steep lane through high cliffs. Summerleaze Beach in Bude is 4.3km north; Bude has a supermarket, independent shops, and the Bude Canal for flat-water kayaking. The accessible layout makes this a viable option for guests with mobility requirements.
