Carlyon Bay is 1.7km east, with a longer sandy beach and water sports hire in season.

The position at Duporth, between Charlestown and Porthpean, sits close to the coast without the noise that comes with being in the middle of Charlestown during summer when the tall ships are moored. The Shipwreck, Rescue and Heritage Centre on the quayside is worth half a day. Pentewan beach and the Lost Gardens of Heligan are both under 10 minutes by car. St Austell town centre is about 2km north for supermarkets and practical supplies.
