Two beaches are within easy walking distance. Porthpean Beach is 500m, a sheltered sandy cove popular with families and away from the main Charlestown visitor crowds. Charlestown Beach itself is 800m, directly below the Georgian harbour that is one of the most photographed in Cornwall, regularly used as a filming location. Carlyon Bay is 1.1 miles east, with a longer sandy beach and water sports hire in season.

The position at Duporth, between Charlestown and Porthpean, sits close to the coast without the noise that comes with being in the middle of Charlestown during summer when the tall ships are moored. The Shipwreck, Rescue and Heritage Centre on the quayside is worth half a day. Pentewan beach and the Lost Gardens of Heligan are both under 10 minutes by car. St Austell town centre is about 1.2 miles north for supermarkets and practical supplies.

Good for families or couples who want beach proximity and a quiet base, with Charlestown's harbour atmosphere and restaurants a short walk away. Less good for those wanting a village-centre setting - this is a residential estate rather than a characterful street.
