Bodmin barn conversion with wood burner and trails from the door
The Byre Dunmere is a three-bedroom stone barn conversion for six, in Dunmere on the edge of Bodmin where the Camel Trail begins its flat, 11.5-mile route to Padstow, and Explore by Bike hire sits right at the trailhead. Host Charlie manages the booking.
One bedroom has a king-size bed, and the other two are twins that convert to a king-size and a super-king-size bed on request at booking. Two bathrooms serve the group. Inside, a wood burner heats the converted barn, and Wi-Fi and a dishwasher are included, though there is no washing machine, so longer stays need a launderette in town.
A garden, patio and barbecue give outdoor space for meals, parking is included and up to two dogs are accepted. Beyond the Camel Trail, Bodmin Moor rises to Brown Willy, Cornwall's highest point at 420 metres, and Lanhydrock House's 890-acre National Trust estate is about 2.5 miles south-east.
For the coast, Port Gaverne Beach is 8.5 miles away, a sheltered cove near Port Isaac. Daymer Bay Beach is 9.6 miles and Carlyon Bay 9.8 miles, all driving trips rather than quick walks.
Seven holidaycottages.co.uk reviews give the barn a rating of 4.7 out of 5.
**Best for:** families or friends bringing bikes, walking gear and up to two dogs. **Less good for:** guests who want the beach within walking distance, a washing machine or confirmed accessible facilities.
