Daymer Bay Beach is 2.2km on foot or by car. It is a broad, sand-flat estuary beach that is sheltered from Atlantic swells and generally calm, making it popular for paddleboarding and swimming. Greenaway Beach is 2.8km - a more secluded cove further along the headland. Polzeath, the main surf beach in this area, is 3.6km and has a surf school.

The cottage is in Porthilly Lane, which runs through a quiet residential part of Rock. The lane gives access on foot to the Camel Estuary shoreline. Polzeath has the nearest surf school at approximately 3.6km; Rock sailing club is even closer.
