Valley Lodge 44

Valley Lodge 44 is one of the small clusters of lodges along the valley stream at Tamar Valley Resort, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty near Callington. The ground floor holds three bedrooms and two bathrooms, while the first floor has the kitchen and a sitting room with dining area and a decked balcony with garden furniture and rural views.

The bedrooms are a double, a twin with 3ft beds and a twin with one 2ft 6in bed and one 3ft bed, so the lodge sleeps six. A terrace off the master bedroom overlooks the valley. There is a bathroom with a bath and shower over, and a separate shower room. The kitchen has an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge and washer/dryer, and there is a TV, DVD player and WiFi.

The allocated space for one car is a short walk from the lodge, so you can unload by the lodge and then park. The walk is either over a small bridge and up 11 steps, or along the road and up a short hill. The resort has indoor and outdoor heated pools, a bar, a shop and reception, and the shop and pub are a 10-minute walk; the outdoor pool opens from mid-May to mid-September, weather permitting. Facilities may have seasonal opening times, the pools and gym are booked at reception once you are on site, under-16s cannot use the gym, and under-16s in the pool need an adult.

Two well-behaved pets are welcome, though breeds listed under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 are not permitted. Heating is central, and fuel, power, bed linen and towels are included, with a cot and highchair available on request. The water supply is private and tested regularly. Bookings are for holidays only, sign-written vans and commercial vehicles are not permitted at the resort, and smoking is not allowed. The lodge suits a family of six who want their bedrooms on one floor, and is less good for anyone who would struggle with the 11 steps or the hill from the parking space.
