Melrose Cottage

Melrose is a refurbished old Cornish cottage in the centre of Polperro on the south Cornwall coast. It sleeps six across three bedrooms, with two bathrooms, so the space works for a family or two couples sharing rather than only for a pair.

The cottage keeps the shape of a traditional village house and has been modernised inside. A log fire warms the main living area, and Wi-Fi, dishwasher and washing machine are included. Having two bathrooms rather than one eases the morning queue with six people in the house. Dogs are welcome.

Outside, the property has an enclosed courtyard - practical outdoor space in a village centre where most cottages have none. Polperro's centre is closed to cars, so drivers leave vehicles at the main car park on the edge of the village and walk down, a few minutes on foot.

The harbour, village shops and pubs are a short walk from the cottage. The South West Coast Path runs through the village, connecting to Talland Bay in one direction and Looe in the other. Talland Bay is around 1.8km away and Lansallos beach about 4km. Prices start at GBP 626 per week, rising to GBP 1,352 at peak.

Best for: families and small groups wanting a traditional cottage within walking distance of a working harbour. Less good for: guests who need to park at the door.
