Polperro is one of the tightest-packed fishing villages in Cornwall: a narrow valley with a working harbour at the bottom, surrounded by whitewashed cottages climbing the hillsides. The harbour, pubs, restaurants, and independent shops are all within a few minutes on foot. The village is traffic-controlled during summer, so cars are parked at the top and a tractor bus or walk brings you down.

Talland Bay is 1.8km along the coast path - a quiet, south-facing shingle and sand beach reached by steep lanes. Lekerock Cove is 1.6km. Looe, with its wider beach and more facilities, is 5 miles east by road.
