Teak Cottage

Teak Cottage holds one of the better positions in Polperro - elevated on the hillside above the harbour, with water views from both the master bedroom balcony and the sun room. Three bedrooms sleep six across a double and two twins, served by parking spaces on site - an asset in a village where most visitors must use the park-and-ride at the top of the hill.

The sun room and balcony face the water, making them the natural place to sit on fair mornings. A terraced garden steps down from the rear with outdoor furniture for eating outside. The kitchen is well equipped for self-catering stays of a week or more.

Polperro's harbour is the centre of village life. Fishing boats still work from here, and the net loft has been converted into the heritage museum that explains the village's smuggling history. Daily boat trips run to Fowey and Looe in summer. Independent restaurants, two pubs, a bakery, and a handful of galleries are all within a 10-minute walk from the cottage.

Lekerock Cove Beach is 1.4km along the coast path heading east. Talland Bay, a quieter shingle and sand cove, is 1.6km west. Lansallos Beach - reached only on foot through National Trust woodland - is 4.2km along the South West Coast Path.

The cottage has 40 reviews through Toad Hall, with a rating of 8 out of 10. Prices start at £736 per week, with Saturday changeover.

Best for those who want harbour atmosphere and walking access to coves without needing a car during the stay. Suits groups of friends or families with older children. Less good for anyone with young children or dogs, as the terraced layout and cliff-side paths require care.
