The Retreat

The Retreat is a two-bedroom cottage in Woodhall, Cardinham - a quiet parish east of Bodmin where Forestry England manages 650 hectares of mixed woodland directly on the doorstep. The property sleeps four adults and has a private hot tub in the enclosed garden, which makes it a practical year-round base for couples or a small family who want countryside rather than coast.

Inside, the two bedrooms and two bathrooms give enough space for four to settle comfortably. The kitchen has a dishwasher and the property includes a washing machine - useful for longer stays or walking holidays that generate muddy kit. Wifi and parking are included. Dogs are welcome, and the garden provides a secure area for them to run. There is no sea view from the property.

Cardinham Woods are within easy reach, with waymarked mountain bike trails and walking routes managed by Forestry England, plus a woodland cafe. Bodmin is about 4 miles west - the Bodmin and Wenford Railway runs a 13-mile round trip from Bodmin General, and the Camel Trail cycling route starts in town and runs 11.5 miles to Padstow on the north coast. The nearest beaches are around the south coast: Readymoney Cove near Fowey and Lansallos Beach both sit roughly 10.5 miles away, making day trips to the coast straightforward.

Good for: couples or families who prioritise walks, cycling, and a quiet inland setting with a hot tub. Less suited to guests who want to walk to the sea.
