Red Rails
cottage in Newquay
A large balcony overlooking the beach has picnic benches and chairs
Feel like a film star in this gorgeous property, where you can relax and enjoy the wild Atlantic panorama from the comfort of a beautifully furnished living room or superb outside balcony. The house, seen in one of architect George Clarke’s TV series, is just a 0.25 miles from Fistral Beach and less than 1 mile from Newquay’s busy centre. A year-round magnet for surfers who flock to ride the waves and blessed with wide golden beaches, plus excellent restaurants, the town has a host of attractions for all ages. Learn new skills in safe surroundings at the Watersports Centre, take a boat trip from the harbour, looking out for seals, or stroll through lush, sub-tropical Trenance Gardens and Leisure Park. Here you can hire rowing and pedal boats on the pretty boating lake and enjoy a round of crazy golf. Or visit a beautiful Elizabethan house with an enchanting garden at the National Trust’s Trerice Manor (3 miles) and discover its fascinating history.
The ground-floor open-plan living room/kitchen/ dinner is full of light and colour. Huge sliding doors open on to a spacious balcony with glass balustrade and wonderful sea views, with a bright interior style that enhances the property’s Art Deco origins. Inviting sofas in front of a contemporary wood burner and TV, a dining table with chairs for ten guests and a glossy kitchen with breakfast bar complete the picture. From here, stairs lead down to garden level. There are two king-size bedrooms in the main house, one with an en-suite wet room and WC, plus a small study area and door to stairs leading down to the garden. The other has glorious views across the beach and beyond. There is a a super-king size zip-and-link room (can be made into a twin up on request), another with bunk beds, and a stylish bathroom. The self-contained Hideaway is separate from the house, with doors opening to the garden. It has a mini-kitchen, table and two chairs, sofa, TV and built-in king-size bed with storage beneath, plus a wet room shower and WC.
A large balcony overlooking the beach has picnic benches and chairs, while a large, sheltered garden, enclosed by hedges is an ideal spot for a BBQ.
