The Mowhay

The Mowhay is a converted barn near St Minver sleeping ten across six bedrooms, all on one level. Three bathrooms, original beams, exposed granite walls, a wood burner, and an enclosed garden. Three miles inland of Rock - the upmarket Camel Estuary village across from Padstow - without the Rock price tag.

Sleeping splits across a super-king zip-and-link (convertible to twin), a king with en-suite, a twin, a 2ft6 twin, a single, and a bunk room. The games room has table football and board games; outside there's a boules pitch, table tennis, a BBQ, and sun loungers. No Wi-Fi (worth flagging if you'll need to work). Dogs welcome, parking on site, host is Charlie.

The location runs to two coasts. Polzeath is 5.5km north-west for surf and surf schools; Port Gaverne is 4.5km north-east for the rocky cove next to Port Isaac. Daymer Bay (5.5km) gives you the sheltered family option. Rock has the foot ferry to Padstow for the Stein restaurants. The 18-mile Camel Trail starts at Padstow and runs flat through Wadebridge to Bodmin Moor.

Best for big multi-family groups or a 60th-birthday weekend - all single-storey is rare for 10 sleepers, and the games room earns its keep on a wet day. Less good for guests who need Wi-Fi or want to walk to a pub.
