Wavelength

Wavelength is a cedar-clad eco-home on the hillside above Chapel Porth, near St Agnes on Cornwall's north coast. The building has a sedum roof designed to sit low in the landscape, with bi-folding doors opening the main living space onto a large deck. Views from the deck take in St Ives Bay and Godrevy Lighthouse to the south-west - clear on most days, dramatic in Atlantic weather.

The cottage sleeps four in two bedrooms: a king-size room with en-suite, and a twin room. A wood-burning stove anchors the open-plan living area; the kitchen includes a dishwasher and BBQ. No parking is available on site, and no washing machine - both worth factoring in for longer stays.

The South West Coast Path runs directly past the front door. Trevaunance Cove in St Agnes is 2.3km along the path - a sheltered north-coast beach with a surf school and the Driftwood Spars pub a short walk from the sand. Trevellas Cove is 2.8km, quieter with a small stream. Chapel Porth beach is a short walk downhill, backed by old mine workings and managed by the National Trust. The Wheal Coates engine house on the cliff above Chapel Porth is one of the most photographed buildings in Cornwall.

Best for walkers, surfers, or anyone wanting to trade a generic cottage for a property with real architectural character and coastal position. Less suited to guests needing parking, dog-friendly accommodation, or laundry on site.
